 Sycamore Canyon Opens in Santa Rita Mountain FoothillsTucson, AZ (March 22, 2005). Construction of homes has begun in the master planned community of Sycamore Canyon located in the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains. Sycamore Canyon represents a new standard of community design with 1,100 acres of the 1,598 total acres — nearly seventy percent of the total land mass — preserved as a natural open space park. In addition to the large amount of desert that will be preserved, neighborhood guidelines have been established to minimize the effects of the homes on the community's natural environment. Meandering pedestrian walkways, bike paths and nature trails have been integrated into the development plan. A sports and playground park will also be part of the community. Future plans call for a Village Center for community events. Commercial development areas are also part of the master plan. The first phase of 485 homes will include various housing offered by Richmond American Homes, Pepper-Viner Homes, Meritage Homes, D.R. Horton Homes and CANOA Homes. Sycamore Canyon is located in the Vail School District off Sahuarita Road at Harrison Road, one mile west of Houghton Road.
